D.C. Billingsley (1944)
Longtime businessman and civic leader who received the Lemoore Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year award and a Kings County Ag Supporter of the Year award. D.C. opened Billingsley Tire in Lemoore in 1957. He was a generous supporter of the community and school events. He was a longtime member of the Lemoore Chamber and a former volunteer fireman.
Karl Dewazien (1964)
Karl distinguished himself in the field of athletics by taking on numerous roles with U.S. Soccer associations. He was the author of several soccer fundamentals books and served as the Fresno Pacific head soccer coach. He has been involved in European soccer organizations and was a coaching director for the California Youth Soccer Association. He taught hundreds of thousands of coaches throughout the U.S. He was the only clinician honored to do sessions at both National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the United States Youth Soccer Association’s annual general meetings.
Lori Romeiro Gardner (1982)
After playing softball at LHS, Lori went on to star at Fresno state where she earned All-American status. She still holds the LHS record for wins (22 in a season) and led her 1982 team to the Central Section Championship as a pitcher.
Dan Lewis (1966)
Dan distinguished himself in the field of education as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent of Dinuba Unified School District. He led Dinuba High School to a Distinguished School award in 1988 and earned numerous awards in the field of education. He was also a civic leader in the city of Dinuba.
Kathy Neves (1972)
Kathy was the first woman to serve on the Lemoore Union High School District Board of Trustees. She chaired the LHS Centennial Celebration during which over 3,000 alumni gathered in Lemoore to celebrate the school’s first 100 years.
Anthony Nunes (1953)
Anthony was a long time Government teacher at LHS for 50 years who was a District Teacher of the Year. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was extremely involved in St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Russ Powell (1942)
Russell was a very successful journalist. Following a stint in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II he earned a journalism degree and worked in the valley at a series of radio stations. He joined CBS in 1962 where he wrote the news and anchored studio news programs. He was honored with six Golden Mikes, six Associated Press Awards and two California State Fair gold medals. He covered the Democratic and Republican Conventions in 1968 and also the 1971 Los Angeles earthquake.
Thomas Bettencourt (1935)
Thomas was a local farmer and community leader who earned the Citizen of the Year status in 1976. He was instrumental in the formation of Central Union School District in Lemoore and served on the Lemoore Union High School District Board of Trustees.
LaVerne Paul Spencer (1937)
Following being the Class of 1937 Valedictorian, LaVerne taught elementary school before moving to the Long Beach area where she became very actively involved in the community for the remainder of her life. She was involved with the Long Beach Republican Women’s Association and served in a variety of educational positions.
Mel Simas (1960)
Ml was a well-known promoter and fair manager who served a number of county fairs in California. He was also the originator of the popular Melco Dances in Lemoore. He earned many honors during his lifetime, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Academy of Country Music. He was also the founder and president of Simas and Associates, a major consulting and project management company.

Debbie began her career as a Speech Pathologist for the Kings County Office of Education where she also served as the Hearing Impaired Consultant and a Program Specialist for special needs students. She spend five years at Shelly Baird School as the Principal before coming to Lemoore High to become the Vice Principal. At Lemoore High she brought the Every 15 Minutes Program and Link Crew to the students. She developed the Gang Resistance and Intervention Program (G.R.I.P.) to support gang students.

Donald Griffin (1960)
Donald earned his doctorate degree in psychology from the University of California at Berkeley and started teaching at City College of San Francisco in 1969. He was appointed Chancellor in 2008. Veteran’s Affairs recognized him for his work as a psychologist in East Bay VA hospitals and for his community work during the 1989 Loma Prieto earthquake.
Ronald Maciel (1961)
Ronald earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California Los Angeles then attended Loyola Law School. He returned to Kings County in 1980 and practiced law until he was elected as a judge to the Kings County Superior Court in 1988. He retired in 2007 and practiced law as a partner with Benninghoff and Maciel.
Michael Ray (1968)
Michael began his aviation career shortly after graduating from LHS. By 1979, he was working up the ranks at the McDonnell Douglas commercial aircraft delivery center which later merged with Boeing. In 2004, Michael joined the company’s maintenance and modification program for the C-17 Globemaster III airlifter. In 2005, Michael and his team received Boeing’s Gold Eagle award for their efforts in recovering a severely damages C-17 from Afghanistan.
Bill Parry (1991)
Bill graduated magna cum laude from California State University Fresno in 1995 before enrolling in San Joaquin College of Law. He joined Kahn, Soares and Conway in 2001. He was a litigator in the Hanford office and the firm’s senior associate. He served on the LUHSD Foundation for Educational Excellence as a Director and has volunteered his time at LHS sporting events.

Marc is the founder of Vine Global, a leading global e-commerce solutions provider. He is also the author of a patented blueprint for a zero integration model for e-commerce merchants. Marc was previously the chief technology officer for Comerxia and was one of the founding engineers and chief technical architect of Buy.Com. He has held engineering and consultant positions at companies like Nasty Gal, ABB Optical, Toyota Motors, U.S.A., Washington Mutual and Heidrick and Struggles.
Norma Deneen Perreira Guss (1983) Educator
Deneen is the Deputy Superintendent of the Monterey County Office of Education and has served in the district and site leadership positions for over 17 years. She is a former superintendent, associate superintendent, director of curriculum of instruction as well as a principal and assistant superintendent. Deneen is involved in Impact Monterey County, Epicenter and Bright Futures. She has been recognized as the Soledad Unified School District’s Administrator of the Year, Soledad Commerce Volunteer of the Year and has received the Child Abuse Prevention Council Community Education Award.
Mandy Broaddus (1992)
Mandy Smoker Broaddus is the serves as the Director of Indian Education at the Montana Office of Public Instruction. She was named the National Indian Education Association’s Educator of the Year in 2015. President Obama named her to the National Advisory Council on Indian Education and advises the Secretary of Education and Congress on the administration and funding of Alaska Native and American Indian programs.

Bobbin Cherrington-Mulvaney (1976)
Bobbin and her husband, Patrick, are owners of a successful restaurant in the Sacramento area. Prior to this Bobbin ran her own catering business. Bobbin was instrumental in starting the “Plates Café & Catering”, a program of St. John’s Women’s Shelter to train formerly homeless women with children to work in the food service industry, a program which now grosses over $500,00/year. Bobbin and Patrick are known for their social entrepreneurship and volunteerism in the community. Bobbin has won the following awards: Point of Light, American Institute of Light (2009), Distinguished Mother Award, St. John’s Women’s and Children’s Shelter (2010); Women Who Mean Business, Sacramento Business Award (2011); Small Business of the Year, 9th Assembly District (2011); Social Equity Award, Valley Vision (2012); Open Table’s Top 100 American Restaurants (2012).
Jerome Avery (1997)
Jerome Avery selflessly gave up his own dreams as an Olympian to become a Guide Runner for the US Paralympic Track and Field Team. He has participated as a Guide Runner in the following Paralympic Games with visually impaired runner David Brown: Rio 2016; London 2012 and Bejing 2008. Together they call themselves “BrAvery”. With Jerome’s guidance, David set the 100 meter world record for totally blind athletes within just a few months of their working together. Team BrAvery has won gold medals in the 200 meter and 100 meter sprints for the US in the Paralympics in 2012 and silver in the 2013 games. In March of 2014, they set the current International Paralympic Committee World Record in the 100 and 200 meter sprints.
Jeffrey Reid (1977)
Jeff earned his law degree from the University of Berkeley, School of Law in 1984. He worked for the Reagan election committee under an Internship Program. He began his legal career with the law firm of McCormick Barstow. He served as the City Manager for the City of Fresno in the late 1990’s where he was responsible for the operational oversight of all facets of municipal government. He also served as the Undersecretary of the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency where he supervised thirteen departments. Jeff served as a member of the Fresno County Assessment Appeals Board and the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission. Jeff was selected for inclusion in the Northern California Super Lawyers List for his primary practice area in Land Use/Zoning.
Virginia Wedderburn (1960)
Ginny was an extreme water person who excelled in SCUBA diving. She opened an aquatics facility, Adventure Sports Unlimited (ASU) in 1978 which taught people to swim, kayak and SCUBA dive around the world. She was one of the first women in California to become a SCUBA instructor. ASU become one of the oldest, largest and most profitable operations of its kind. She started the Santa Cruz Kayak Surf Festival which was one of the largest events of its type in the world. This contest benefitted local non-profit organizations and grew the sport of surf kayaking into an international sport with world championships. Santa Cruz recognized her 30 plus years of accomplishments by giving her a key to the city.

Gary Sedgwick Award: Rodney Evangelho (Class of 1990)
Joey Wester (Class of 1980) is a Grammy Award winning designer and has enjoyed a career spanning over 30 years creating high impact marketing materials and stunning artwork for a wide variety of different clients in both the entertainment and music industry. Her paintings can be seen in movies from Dreamworks, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Warner Bros, Paramount and more. Her work has been used in some of the top TV Shows such as Scandal, True Blood, American Horror Story, Mad Men, House, 24, Californication and hundreds more. Joey’s designs are sold worldwide as the “Joey Wester Collection” through Chromacast, Amazon and Walmart.
Todd Barlow (Class of 1988) is currently the Kings County Superintendent of Schools, elected in 20xx. Prior to serving as the county school leader, Todd was the Principal Superintendent of Kit Carson School for nine years. He started his educational career at Kit Carson as a middle school teacher for eleven years.
Alex Duke(Class of 1991)
Alex Duke, then known as Alex Welch, attended Lemoore High School beginning in 1987 and
graduated with the class of 1991. During those four years, he participated in an array of
formative activities. In his first year, he was elected Freshman Class President. This continued
an interest in student government which began in prior grades and culminated in his election to
Student Body President his senior year. He was also very active in the drama program
performing in several plays such as Vacancy In Paradise and We’re All Guilty furthering his
interest in the performing arts. This would ultimately guide him into a career in television.
Combined with a love of music, Alex found another avenue of expression being selected as a DJ
at the on-campus radio station known then as KGRR where he ultimately became Program
Director. He also found time to participate in various sports including wrestling, tennis, golf and
swimming.
After high school, Alex went on to attend Fresno State. With an eye on one day venturing to
Hollywood, he chose an academic path important to showbiz but also useful in other industries.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with an emphasis in
marketing in 1995. While there, Alex was an on-air DJ for KFSR, the radio station owned &
operated by Fresno State.
With a degree in-hand and a dream, Alex began his journey to study and be a part of the TV and
moviemaking business. Settling in Hollywood, sending out resumes and making as many
contacts as possible, he quickly found himself interning for a well-known casting director. That
internship led to a position on the iconic Emmy-winning TV show The Simpsons. There he
learned the ropes and gained the knowledge & experience he needed. 24 years and over 500
episodes later, Alex has become an integral part of The Simpsons production in his current role
as Co-Producer.
