The safety of our students and staff is a top priority at Lemoore Union High School District. With the recent tragedy in Santa Clarita, and other tragedies throughout the country, LUHSD continues to update our safety plans to keep our schools safe and focused on student learning. Our safety plan focuses on specific key elements:
LUHSD has been fortunate to build a positive relationship with the Lemoore Police Department, the City of Lemoore and the Lemoore Volunteer Fire Department. A key element with the partnerships is to have a Youth Development Officer (YDO) assigned to the Lemoore High School Campus, and to work closely with the SRO at West Hills Community College Lemoore to ensure that all four high schools are served.
Each school site works with all stakeholders to update their school safety plan annually. The plan is reviewed at each sites charter council and the LUHSD Governing Board for approvals. Emergency response plans outlined in each sites safety plan is drilled throughout the school year to ensure preparedness in the event of any outlined emergency.
Identifying and intervening before an emergency occurs is critical to keeping our schools safe. It is important that all stakeholders help to identify potential threats or concerning behaviors. Students, parents, staff, and community members are encouraged to immediately report threats and concerning behaviors to law enforcement. Sprigeo is used by all school sites when stakeholders see something, to say something.
How can you help: Remind your student to be mindful of conversations, both in person and on social media. Make sure to tell your student how to report incidents and to not participate in conversations about violent behavior.
